So nice to hear from you! And we miss Sparky and Speedy, too. And I’m sure Dexter misses Speedy. They used to love being on the front porch together. They also used to like hanging out in the backyard, especially on nice summer days like today! But when I’m feeling sad about Sparky and Speedy, I just try to think of all the fun times we had with them, and that always puts a smile on my face!

You’re welcome! Hope you’re enjoying your summer. It sure is hot today. I actually cancelled Dexter’s appointment with the vet (he needs to get a shot for his arthritis in his front leg) because it was too hot. But Dexter has been busy. He visited a preschool yesterday, and he has another preschool visit tomorrow!

Sorry I took a few days to get back to you. I went to New York City with my granddaughter Aubrey (she goes to Stark School). We went to the Central Park Zoo and the FAO Schwarz toy store!
Anyway, Dexter and I would love to come back and visit you and your classmates, but it will have to be next school year because school is out for the summer!

Sparky first day in school. /Sparky it was so excited to be in school sparky’s teacher said we are having a field trip we are going to the zoo the teacher said the bus is herelet’s go on the bus we arrived at sparky’s teacher sparky sol a lion and a shark and a hippopotamus at last the school bus came and sparky’s teacher let’s go in the school bus where we’re going back to school we’re going uh-oh there’s a problem the school bus tire broke sparky sol a new tire of a school bus in a store the sparky but the tire and they went back to school and sparky went back home happy and safe the end

Dexter and I had so much fun meeting you and all your classmates today at Park City! I loved how Dexter just hung out with all of you. Everyone was so nice to him, but he’s such a good dog. However, I forgot one of Dexter’s pictures and the doggie treats that Ms. Bennett gave him, so I have to come back later this week to pick them up!

I’m so happy Mateo is enjoying his Sparky and Dexter books! That’s wonderful! In Mr. Dexter’s Neighborhood, if Mateo wants to get an idea where Dexter actually lives, the street with the noisy trucks on the map in the back of the book is Courtland Avenue near the train tracks in Stamford.
As for animal rescue, all my dogs have been adopted. Without the animal rescue organizations, I never would have written any children’s books because Sparky (and now Dexter) have been my inspirations. That’s why we donate back to the rescue agencies, and we’re closing in on $25,000 in donations! Dexter and I are happy that we’re visiting your school next week, too! Dexter loves meeting all the kids. He gets lots of loving!
As for writing a book in a day, well, I guess I could write a quick story in a day, but it takes me much, much longer to write one of the Sparky and Dexter books, especially the chapter book (Dexter and the Rescuettes). I’m actually working on the sequel to that chapter book (it might be called “Band on the Run”), and that has taken me months and months to write. But I don’t write every day. Maybe once a week I’ll work on the book. And then when the book is done, I’ll work with the illustrator, who will use my ideas for the drawings and draw the pictures in the book (I can’t draw! ) So, it takes quite a while to finish a book, much more than a day!!

And I’m so happy that you like Sparky and Dexter! Sparky actually loved eating bananas (She loved fruit! She ate apples, pears, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, canteloupe, and watermelon, too!)
