    Hi Ellie!

Thank you so much for all your messages and also thank you for your kind words about Sparky.  Yes, it is sad that Sparky passed away, but she enjoyed a long, wonderful life.  She lived to be 13 years old.  I have so many great memories of Sparky, so when I think about Sparky it always puts a smile on my face because of all the fun times we had together.  And I’m sure if you got to meet Sparky you would have liked her.  Her tail wagged a lot, and she loved to give doggie kisses!

    See you next week!

    Hi Bella!

Thanks so much for your kind words about Sparky.  She was wonderful dog with a big heart.  She loved everybody (sometimes she loved them so much she’d knock people over!).  I sure do miss her, but I have lots of great memories of Sparky.

Dexter and I are looking forward to meeting you and all your classmates next week.  And your dog is 15 years old??!!  Wow!!  That’s great!  And he’s a boy, just like Dexter!  (Sparky was a girl.)

See ya soon!  Enjoy the weekend!

hello there, thank you for taking time out your day to visit park city magnet. Even though I am very scared of dogs I will take my chances to give your dog a gift and also you I can’t wait for you to come to our class. We are very thankful to have this opportunity for you to come to our class I can’t wait. I have a few questions when’s your birthdays what’s your favorite color, what’s your favorite food, how old are y’all, what is the best part of being an author, whats your favorite book and lastly where are you from

    Hi Milena,

First of all, Dexter is the perfect dog for anyone afraid of dogs because he’s so gentle.  He won’t jump on you or chase you or scratch you or bark at you or bite your fingers.  All he wants is for kids to be nice to him and pet him.  So, I’m sure you’ll like Dexter (and a gift, too?  Wow!).  And we can’t wait to visit your school!  I’m sure it will be lots of fun.

As for the questions, I’ll answer most of them, but the one about the best thing being an author, you can ask me that next Thursday, OK?  As for birthdays, Dexter’s “birthday” is May 7 (that’s the day we adopted him from Adopt-A-Dog; Dexter was a homeless dog from West Virginia, so we don’t know his real birthday), and my birthday is June 4.  My favorite color is blue.  I don’t know what Dexter’s favorite color is, but dogs are supposedly color blind, so maybe black and white?  Dexter’s favorite food is probably cheese.  He loves cheese!  But he also loves dog biscuits!  My favorite food is probably pie!!  I love pie. Especially cherry pie.

And Dexter is 10 years old (can’t believe he’s already 10!), and I’m 66 (yep, I’m old!!).  And we live in Stamford.

    See ya next week!

    Rick and Dexter (woof!)

Hi author rick and dexter i’m happy that your are coming to my class room next week on thursday and also what books are yo going to show and how is dexter I hope he is doing well. Hi dexter what was your favorite book that author rick made your or you made to show the world and I hope your having a great time. By Liam Hernandez.

    Hi Liam!

I think I’m going to read “Sparky’s Wonderful Life” to you and your classmates and then spend the rest of the time talking about my dogs and books and taking some questions.  Sort of just like hanging out with you and your classmates.  And, of course, Dexter will be hanging out with us, too!  Dexter is doing fine, although with the rain today he could hang out in the backyard, and because it was cold, too, he didn’t get to spend time on the front porch, which he loves to do.

As for Dexter’s favorite book, that’s hard to say.  I’m sure he likes “Mr. Dexter’s Neighborhood” because he likes to go for walks, and I’m sure he likes “Dexter & the Rescuettes,” the chapter book, because lots of his doggie friends are in it.

But maybe Dexter’s favorite book will be the one that’s almost finished, “The Ups and Downs of Opposites, Starring Dexter and Speedy the Tortoise.”  It’s already written, and the illustrations are just about done.  Maybe Dexter will like that one the best because Speedy is in the book, and also the illustrations are great!

    Thanks for writing!

    Rick and Dexter, too!

  • Cameron G.

Hello Mr Rick my name is Cameron and I’m in 4th grade at park city magnet school, im looking forward to seeing you and Dexter he looks very cute and im not a big fan of dogs but i would like to hear more about you and Dexter (and also Sparky)

    Hi Cameron!

Looking forward to meeting you and all your classmates next week!   And that’s OK that you’re not a big fan of dogs.  But you’ll probably will like Dexter anyway.  He’s the most gentle dog I’ve ever had, so you don’t have to worry about Dexter barking at you or jumping on you.  All he wants is to have you be nice to him and pet him.  But I’ll tell you all about Dexter and Sparky (as well as a couple of other animals) when we visit next week.

    See ya then!

    Rick and Dexter, too!
