It will be so much fun with you and our dog, and it will be so much fun that day.

Hi,  it is so nice to meet you on 29 and I can wait to pet our dog.

    Hi Ellie!

Dexter and I can’t wait to meet you and all your classmates on the 29th!  Dexter enjoys meeting the kids on his school visits.  His favorite thing is just to have kids be nice to him and pet him!

    See ya next week!

    Rick and Dexter, too!

    Hi Author Rick,

My class and Mrs. Bennet’s class is looking forward to your visit with Dexter Thursday, May 29th.

    WOOF!

    Lauren

    Hi Lauren!

Dexter and I are looking forward to it, too!  I was thinking I might just read Sparky’s Wonderful Life, and then just talk with the kids, some Q&A, and have Dexter in the class with me.

    See ya soon!

    Rick and Dexter, too!  Woof!

Thanks you for coming to our School

    Hi Jackson!

You’re welcome!  Dexter and I had so much fun meeting you and all your classmates.  Dexter was a such a good boy, even though I forgot to bring his doggie biscuits! (We stopped on the way home for a little snack.  Dexter loves croissants!).

Thanks for writing!  And keep on reading!!

    Rick (and Dexter, too!)  Woof!

I miss  sparky and dextex to

    Hi Marcus!

I miss Sparky, too!  Especially since it was just her “birthday” on April 24 (not her real birthday; that was the day we adopted Sparky from Adopt-A-Dog; we never knew her real birthday, only that she was born sometime in 1998 somewhere in New York City).  She was such a wonderful dog.  But I have great memories of Sparky, and whenever I miss her I just think about all the fun we had together, and it always puts a smile on my face.

And thanks for your kind words about Dexter, too!  He’s really tired today after visiting all the kids at Hudson Valley Catholic Academy.  I’ll give Dexter a hug for you tonight!

Thanks for writing!  Enjoy the weekend!

    Rick (and Dexter, too!)

do Dexter like to play outside

    Hi O’Shea!

Yes, Dexter likes to play outside!  Sometimes, I’ll play with him, and he’ll start running all around the backyard!  Dexter also likes to play with some of his doggie friends in the backyard, but we haven’t done that for a while.  We have to invite one of his pals to visit soon.  Our mailman has a nice dog named Smokey that Dexter has played with in the backyard.

But to tell you the truth, rather than playing, Dexter really likes to just lay in the sunshine in the backyard and take a nap.  He loves that!

    Thanks for the great question!

    Rick and Dexter, too!  Woof!

    I love you,sparky and dexter sparky😘🩷🫶.

    Hi Aisha!

Thank you so much for your kind words! Sorry I took a few days to reply, but I’m down in New Orleans for a few days.   When Sparky was alive, she and I visited schools down here.  I’m going back home tonight, and I sure will be happy to see Dexter when I get there!!

Hope you had a great weekend!

    Rick (and Dexter, too!)  Woof!

Do Dexter like to get wet in the summer in the pool

    …?

    Hi Jayla!

We don’t have a pool, not even a little kids one, but I doubt Dexter would like to go in the water.  Actually, he doesn’t really like the water.  He hates going on walks when it’s raining really hard, and sometimes he’ll even walk around a big puddle!  Dexter also doesn’t jump into the water at the beach.  And he hates, absolutely hates taking a bath!!

Sparky was sort of just like Dexter, too.  However, once when Sparky was visiting school way up north in New York State, she actually jumped in a big river called the St. Lawrence River! I thought she was going to drown!  But even though Sparky didn’t like the water, like most dogs, she knew how to swim.  So she paddled herself out of the water and shook all the water off herself when she climbed back on shore.

    Thanks for the great question!

    how old is dexter

    Hi Justin!

Dexter is nine years old right now, but he’s turning 10 soon, May 7.  That’s his “birthday.”  Well, not his real birthday.  That’s the day we adopted Dexter from Adopt-A-Dog when he was two years old in 2017.  Adopt-A-Dog rescued Dexter from a dog pound in Fayetteville, West Virginia.  We don’t know Dexter’s real birthday.  All we know is that he was born sometime in 2015 somewhere around Fayetteville, West Virginia.

And with Dexter turning 10 years old soon, that means he’s about 70 years old in human years.  One dog year is believed to be about seven human years.  So, 10 x 7 = 70.

As for coming back to Black Rock, Dexter will be visiting again this Friday.  He’ll be there Friday morning with a few more classes in the same place that you met Dexter last week.

    Thanks for the great questions!

    Rick (and Dexter, too!)
